Project on Cell Division

Cell division is the process by which a parent cell divides into two or more daughter cells. This fundamental process is essential for growth, development, and reproduction in living organisms. There are two main types of cell division:

1.         Mitosis: Mitosis is the type of cell division that produces two daughter cells with identical genetic material to the parent cell. It is involved in growth, repair, and maintenance of multicellular organisms. Mitosis consists of several stages: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.

2.         Meiosis: Meiosis is a specialized type of cell division that occurs in sexually reproducing organisms. It produces gametes (sperm and egg cells) with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell. Meiosis consists of two rounds of division, resulting in four daughter cells, each with half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.

Both mitosis and meiosis are tightly regulated processes that ensure the accurate distribution of genetic material to daughter cells.
